INVITATION TO TAKE PART IN A RESEARCH STUDY
You are being asked to take part in a research study to investigate the factors that influence delivery of oral health interventions for people experiencing homelessness in Scotland. This work forms the basis of Laura Beaton’s PhD research, supervised by Professor Ruth Freeman and Dr Andrea Rodriguez at the University of Dundee, Professor Gerry Humphris at the University of St Andrews, and Professor Isobel Anderson at the University of Stirling.
PURPOSE OF THE RESEARCH STUDY
This study is being conducted to investigate factors that affect the delivery of oral health interventions aimed at people experiencing homelessness, from the point of view of organisations, practitioners and homeless clients. This will involve three stages:
- Discovering and characterising competent delivery of oral health education to people experiencing homelessness
- To identify the barriers and facilitators that affect competent delivery of national guidance concerning the oral health education for people experiencing homelessness
- To identify a tool that could assess the competent delivery of national guidance concerning oral health education for people experiencing homelessness
As this work aims to inform the development of interventions for the translation of national guidance regarding oral health and homelessness, participation in this research would benefit the homeless population in Scotland, and practitioners who work in the area of oral health and homelessness. There is no benefit to you individually in participating in this research.
You will be asked to complete an online questionnaire, aimed at exploring the barriers and facilitators that affect the delivery of oral health advice with homeless service users. This will take approximately 10 minutes.
By submitting the questionnaire you indicate that you have read and understood the participant information sheet and consent to taking part in this research.
You may be asked to take part in later stages of this research – if so, further information will be provided at that time.
COST, REIMBURSEMENT AND COMPENSATION
Your participation in this study is voluntary, and there is no payment for participation.
There are no known risks for you in this study.
TERMINATION OF PARTICIPATION
You may decide to stop being a part of the research study at any time without explanation and without penalty.
CONFIDENTIALITY/ANONYMITY AND STORAGE
The data collected do not contain any personal information about you except your job title.
No one will be able to link the data you provided to your identity and name. The data will be seen only by the researchers and will not be made available to anyone else.
Data will be kept in locked filing cabinets in the Dundee Dental Hospital and School, University of Dundee. Electronic data will be stored in a password-protected University computer. A governance team, consisting of Laura Beaton and her supervisors (Ruth Freeman, Andrea Rodriguez, Gerry Humphris and Isobel Anderson) will be responsible for the due care of data.
The questionnaire data will be kept for 10 years after which time the files will be destroyed. The results will be used in peer-reviewed papers and in Laura Beaton’s doctoral thesis. Anonymised data will be kept indefinitely.
