Page 1: Introduction

The Alleviate Pain Data Hub are inviting you to participate in this short survey in collaboration with Pain UK, the Advanced Pain Discovery Platform (APDP) and Chronic Pain Australia. The survey has been adapted from the National Pain Survey 2023 run by Chronic Pain Australia.

This is an opportunity for your voice to make a difference in how chronic pain is perceived and managed.

Chronic Pain Australia first started the National Pain Survey in 2009 to collect information and find out more detail from people living with, or caring for those, with chronic pain. Since then, it has grown and developed and through this collaboration, has been adapted for the UK pain community.

Chronic Pain (i.e. pain lasting for more than 3 months) affects 35-51% of the UK adult population (NHS Digital, 2019) and there remains an unmet need of recognition and treatment. Through this survey, which will highlight the lived experience and current issues impacting the UK chronic pain community, feedback will help inform various researcher and stakeholder audiences, to help determine direction and strategy and ultimately accelerate pain research.

The Alleviate Pain Data Hub is one of nine HDR UK Research Data Hubs. Its mission is to create a national data hub for pain research as part of the Advanced Pain Discovery Platform (APDP) consortium, making research data FAIR; Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. At the heart of Alleviate’s design is our Patient & Public Involvement and Engagement Partners who inform strategy to support the development of pain research.

The Alleviate Pain Data Hub, Pain UK, and Chronic Pain Australia are building on an existing collaboration with the ultimate aim to bring lived experience to the global stage.

We would greatly appreciate the input of adult participants from the UK who have direct experience of living with chronic pain as it is your voice that counts. We will not accept participation from anyone who does not meet this criteria. This survey is completely anonymous and we collect no identifying information.

If you have any issues with this survey, please email alleviate-support@dundee.ac.uk.
